Climbing a mountain pass on a cold morning, waiting in the rain at a border crossing or working your way through a technical off-road section with your visor shut? Without a Pinlock, your visor fogs up within seconds. The Leatt Pinlock 120 MaxVision XLT is the clear anti-fog insert for the Pinlock Ready visor of the Leatt ADV 8.5 and ADV 9.5. It sits on the inside of the visor and keeps your view clear, whatever the weather does.
How it keeps your visor clear A Pinlock works on two principles. The surface of the lens attracts and holds moisture, and the airtight silicone seal around its edge forms a thermal barrier together with the visor. As a result, the humid air inside your helmet does not condense on the cold visor, even when you are breathing hard after a muddy section.
Made for changing weather Pinlock rates its lenses by anti-fog performance. This insert is a level 120, which Pinlock describes as advanced anti-fog performance for unpredictable weather. That is exactly what you want on a long trip, when a single day can take you from sunshine to rain and from a warm valley to a cold pass.
Wide, natural view MaxVision means the lens sits in a dedicated recess in the visor and becomes part of it, so as much of your field of view as possible stays fog-free. XLT lets more light through across the whole visible spectrum, so colours look brighter and more natural. According to Pinlock, XLT lenses can be used by day and at night under the ECE 22.06 helmet standard.
One insert for every visor Leatt supplies the ADV 8.5 and ADV 9.5 with a photochromic and a clear visor, plus one Pinlock 120 MaxVision XLT insert. With this spare you replace a worn insert or equip your second visor too, so you can swap visors on the road without moving the insert across. The Pinlock Ready visor is the same part on the ADV 7.5, 8.5 and 9.5, and Pinlock lists this insert as a fit for all three helmets.
Quick to fit Remove the visor from the helmet and check that the arrows on the Pinlock pins point outwards. Flex the visor slightly, place the insert between the two pins and check in daylight that the silicone seal touches the visor all the way round. Then peel the protective film off the insert and refit the visor. If the seal is not tight everywhere, turn the pins 45 degrees towards the helmet. A flat screwdriver or a bank card does the job.
Care on the road Take the insert out of the visor and rinse both with mineral water only. Gently remove any remaining marks with a clean, wet microfibre cloth. Let both dry upright before you put them back together. The surface scratches easily, so keep a spare insert wrapped in a soft cloth or a plastic bag, somewhere dark, dry and free of dust.
